Deborah

I am a licensed massage therapist (LMT) with training in Swedish massage, deep tissue, myofascial chair, relaxation, sports, and injury rehabilitation massage. I enjoy using a variety of massage therapies to help clients feel and perform their best, whether that means improving range of motion, easing sore muscles, enhancing overall well being or reducing chronic stress. From personal experience, I also know that sometimes it is very tough to get to therapy appointments, either because of scheduling problems or because you feel too lousy to get to therapy! That’s why I provide flexible appointments and come to your home. I love making therapy effective, convenient, and enjoyable for my clients!

I have also earned the Master’s Level of Medical Massage Therapy to receive my MMP designation. Medical Massage Professionals are nationally certified to evaluate and treat most injuries or conditions commonly referred by physicians.  Medical massage helps patients achieve a quicker recovery from specific problems that occur when the body is out of alignment, such as neck and back pain, muscle strains and sprains, or acute headaches. As an MMP, I am also trained to incorporate techniques that enhance massage therapy, such as ultra-sound and electrical stimulation.

My interest in massage therapy springs from some personal challenges. As a competitive athlete who attended college on an athletic scholarship for running, I have had more than my fair share of injuries, accidents, and surgeries. In high school I had major knee surgery and had to learn to walk again. During college I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and had to take muscle relaxants to perform well. I soon discovered that massage therapy along with regular stretching helped this condition, and I could stop taking the medications. I have also had four operations to my feet to help correct a birth defect, broken my back and had a lateral  tear in my shoulder. As you can see, when people come to me with a problem or an injury, I can truly understand how they feel and how to help them recover more quickly.

I truly understand the needs of athletes because I'm an avid runner and marathon competitor. Some of my recent accolades include:

AGE GROUP VICTORIES:
Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K
Track Shack Grand Prix Series
Winter Park Road Race 10K
Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon

OVERALL PERFORMANCES:
Volcano’s Marathon, overall woman’s runner-up
Croom Trail 50K, overall women’s winner (5X) and current course record holder
The Derby 50K overall women’s winner (2X)
Warner-Robbins Museum of Aviation Marathon, overall women’s runner-up
Boston Marathon finisher, top 7% of women’s field in this elite race

OTHER ADVENTURES
Hiked and climbed Mt. Whitney, CA – 14,505 ft., Mauna Kea, HI – 13,796 ft., Mt. Charleston, NV – 11,900 ft., Half-Dome’s “Cables” at Yosemite National Park, CA and the Grand Canyon, to name a few adventures

The biggest push to switch to massage therapy as a career came when my son was involved in a serious car accident. He spent six days in the ICU and the entire summer recovering at home. I was working in the construction industry building custom homes at the time – a very demanding and stressful career that often took me away from my son. I realized I wanted a career with more flexibility and more personal satisfaction in helping people. I had been so impressed with how much the nurses impacted my son during his time in the hospital. I thought about my 20+ years of athletics and injury knowledge and the choice was simple.  I quit my job and went back to school and became a massage therapist.  This new career also gave me the opportunity to help out at school and get more involved with my church, First United Methodist Church of Clermont.

As my career has truly taken off over the past two years, I am blessed. During these hard economic times people value my service and actually put me into their budget! As busy as I am, I have not missed one parent conference, award ceremony, band concert or swim meet because of work in over three years. I love the flexibility and I want to offer that same flexibility to you so you can meet your therapy goals in a schedule that works for you!
